Updated: Aug 16, 2022

Congratulations on your engagement!

So, now you have probably discovered that planning a wedding involves a ton of organization. I am talking about over 100 hours of planning for the average wedding. This is probably more than you anticipated and the intimidating to do list that comes with organizing your dream day can feel a little overwhelming. From creating the budget (and sticking to it) through to sourcing quotes, liaising with suppliers, and creating the seating plan. There is defiantly a lot of work required in the lead up to your wedding, we cannot forget on the day itself. Who exactly is going to set up, meet with suppliers and deal with last minute emergencies that might arise?

If so, it might be time to think about investigating and investing in a wedding planner but not sure how to choose one and not sure what to ask them. There are many companies now advertising that they offer wedding planning services so it can be really confusing trying to work out which is the best company to choose, and which ones are reliable.

Here I will give you 5 top questions you need to ask when looking for your ideal wedding planner.

1. How many weddings have you planned / how many years have you been in operation?

With this question it does take many years to become a good and experienced wedding planner. Do not settle on the word of the wedding planner on how many weddings they have organised, ask to see evidence. Do they have testimonials / photos?

Emma Louise Wedding Planner has been in operation since 2020 but independently before setting up the business I have been part of 4 weddings and have had my extra services used. Testimonials can be found throughout the website.

2. How much will it cost?

When it comes to planning a wedding, it can be a big expense and it is important to know how much you are committing to before you book your venues. It is not always possible to get suppliers to confirm prices for future years in advance, but you should be able to get a confirmed price for the current year which will allow you to budget. Make sure you check for any hidden extras for example, compulsory paperwork and local taxes.

3. Can we come to meet you / where are you based?

When it comes to choosing a wedding planner it is important to build a good connection with your wedding planner and often the best way to do this is to meet them face to face. During this time it can be uncertain to meet in person but taking part in a zoom call is a great way of to meet your wedding planner.

Emma Louise Wedding Planner offer a personal free consultation where we can meet where is convenient for yourself or set up a zoom call where we can meet face to face that way. Through the free consultation we discuss what you are looking for and what services would best suite you. By discussing what help you are looking for with choosing your initial wedding venues and to talk things over before you book. I offer 10-hour support and advice service where I can help you with suppliers, colour palette and so much more. 4. Do you have a local planning team?

Although it is helpful if the planners themselves are based in the UK or local to you, it is important that they also have an in-resort wedding team who will be able to keep up to date with local changes and do regular checks on the wedding venues and suppliers.

Emma Louise Wedding Planner is proud to have a highly experienced local wedding planner that covers all areas of Bridgend, Cardiff and Swansea and other areas within South Wales and is based in Bridgend.

5. Has someone in your team visited the wedding venues in your area?

It is important that someone from the wedding planning company you are looking in to has been to the wedding venues in order to check them and know what to advise and recommend to you.

At Emma Louise Wedding Planner I have personally visited all venues that are around South Wales that is within my venue booklet I have created.

However, not every wedding planner is the same. Therefore, it is important to know exactly what each planner has to offer before you make a decision. This way, you can ensure you find the perfect planner to meet your requirements.
